Acupuncture Support for Kidney & Liver Disorders

Supportive care for wellbeing alongside treatment from your specialist.

Kidney and liver disorders need diagnosis and ongoing care from a specialist: tests, medicines, diet and sometimes dialysis or other procedures. Acupuncture does not repair kidney or liver damage and is not an alternative to that care.

Its role is supportive: helping with symptoms and comfort, and with the tiredness and stress of living with a long-term illness.

What people come to us with

  • Tiredness and low energy
  • Nausea and poor appetite
  • Body aches, cramps and restless legs
  • Poor sleep
  • Itching and general discomfort

How treatment is approached

Sujok and acupressure are used most, as they are gentle and involve little or no needling. Points are chosen according to your symptoms and your overall strength.

Please bring your latest reports and your prescription. Patients on dialysis or with low platelet counts must mention this first, so that needling is avoided where it would not be safe.

Therapies used: sujok therapy, acupressure, acupuncture. Home visits are available.

What to expect

Some people find relief from nausea, cramps, poor sleep and fatigue. The evidence for acupuncture in these conditions is still limited, so treatment is offered for comfort and quality of life, with no promise about test results.

Continue your specialist’s treatment and diet exactly as advised, and do not start any herbal product without asking your doctor: some are harmful to the kidneys and liver.

See a doctor first if you have

  • Yellowing of the eyes or skin
  • Passing very little urine, or blood in the urine
  • Swelling of the face, feet or abdomen
  • Vomiting blood, black stools, or confusion

Common questions

Can acupuncture cure kidney or liver disease?

No. These conditions are managed by a specialist. Acupuncture is supportive care for symptoms and wellbeing.

I am on dialysis. Can I take treatment?

Often yes, with gentle, mostly needle-free methods. Please share your dialysis schedule and reports so sessions can be planned around it.
